"This manual is written in eight sections. First we give definitions to the words we use, such as "oral traditions", "traditional knowledge", and "oral history". This gives us a common understanding of what we are talking about.
Next we look at how to plan a project. You have to set your goals, talk with community groups, and write proposals for funding. Then you have to plan your interviews. This means buying or borrowing equipment, deciding what questions to ask, and finding people to interview. Then we talk about how to do the interviews. Once you finish the interviews, the hard work of translating and transcribing the interview tapes begins. The rest of the manual gives ideas on how to write your report and present the results to others. We hope you find this manual useful and enjoy your experience in helping to preserve this important information."
