"On December 11-12, the Center for Arts and Culture and Creative Industries, the Contemporary Arts Center, Tulane University School of Architecture, Xavier University, and the University of New Orleans’ Arts Administration program sponsored a one-and-a-half day seminar entitled Creative Investments in New Orleans: Cultural Policy at the Grassroots. Over 70 leaders of small to middle-sized arts and community based organizations attended, as did Lieutenant Governor Mitch Landrieu.
In view of an increased awareness of the importance of the creative class to the state and city’s economic development, participants strategized ways to further prioritize the sector as an important part of state and local economic development strategic planning. Discussion informed a “working paper” that was disseminated to the Lieutenant Governor and the creative sector in February—making the paper a timely reflection of the creative sector’s priorities and policy
recommendations."
