Alberta Netcare EHR Portal can provide health service providers with the processes and information on how to enroll and access Alberta Netcare. There are many benefits both for patient care and for health service providers. To meet your needs, health service providers have participated in the design of the Alberta Netcare EHR Portal. So that you get the most value from this system, the Alberta Netcare EHR Teams are committed to providing support to health service providers.

Five Basic Steps

There are five basic steps for bringing Alberta Netcare into your practice of business.

1. Contact the Alberta Netcare Enrolment (Deployment) Team (see contact information below). A Transition Coordinator (deployment representative) will be assigned to work with you and your staff.

Alberta Netcare Enrolment Line
1-866-756-2647 toll free or in Edmonton 780-642-4082
Email: health.ehrdeployment@gov.ab.ca

2. Work with the Transition Coordinator to assess your readiness and requirements for accessing Alberta Netcare within your operation. This assessment will examine your physical setting, your computer and internet resources, your processes and your training requirements. You will need a computer browser (e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape) connected to the Internet through a high-speed connection.

3. In consultation with the Transition Coordinator, review, complete and sign the following documents:

  • PIA - Privacy Impact Assessment

    • Needs to be completed and submitted to the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner (OIPC) for review and acceptance

Note: As a custodian, you have probably completed a PIA for your practice or for a project that collects, uses or discloses health information. Since Alberta Netcare is a change to your access and use of health information, you need to determine if you need to amend your existing PIA or if you need to complete a new PIA which would address these changes.

    • For additional information contact the OIPC

  • ORA - Organizational Readiness Assessment

    • Needs to be completed and submitted to the AHW Information and Policy Compliance (IPC) unit. The Alberta Netcare Deployment team will assist and support with the completion of this document.

  • IMA - Information Manager Agreement

    • Needs to be signed and the original copy returned to the IPC unit of AHW

  • IEP - Information Exchange Protocol

    • This document remains with the Custodian

4. With the PIA and ORA approved, the Transition Coordinator will work with you through the user registration process and set up your permissions and access IDs and passwords.

5. The Transition Coordinator will help you with training and trouble shooting to help maximize your utilization and benefit from the system.
