Getting to Know Yourself

You have to spend your entire life with yourself. So isn’t it worth getting to know yourself better?

Nurturing our personal development helps us improve our self-esteem, our confidence, our relationships and our health as we strive to make sure our needs are met.

Often, the way we feel about ourselves defines how we act and the way we interact with other people. When we respect ourselves, we’re able to respect others. When we are honest with ourselves, we’re able to be honest with others. When we are confident and self-assured, we’re able to be assertive with people without being pushy or aggressive. Whether we’re asking for advice, relating to others or just being ourselves, it’s much easier when we have confidence backing us up.

To be comfortable with other people, you need to be comfortable with yourself. Most of us are a little anxious when faced with new situations or when meeting people for the first time. We all want to be liked and we all want to fit in. Fitting in without using alcohol or other drugs means having the confidence to be yourself without getting high. That kind of confidence comes with experience. Often, extending yourself and taking chances will make you more comfortable the next time you find yourself in similar situations.

And with every new challenge you set for yourself, with every new experience you gain, you’ll get to know yourself a little better than you did before.
