Capital Region Plan

The Capital Region is growing like never before.

The population in the Capital Region's 25 communities from Legal to Leduc and from Wabamun to Lamont, will nearly double by 2041. So there’s tremendous opportunity for municipalities to grow together and partner on a regional blueprint for the future.

To jumpstart this opportunity, the province has created a structure for a regional board to start building a regional plan. A long-range plan on regional land use and infrastructure such as roads and transit will be the priority. It can all be done in a deliberate and coordinated fashion, involving all the affected municipalities.

And, by working together municipalities will determine how to share costs on regional infrastructure that benefits everyone who lives and works in the Capital Region.
