The Conflict of Interest Commissioner is an officer of the Legislative Assembly, and
is independent from government. The Yukons Conflicts Commissioner is David
Jones, Q.C. who was first appointed by the Legislative Assembly on May 14, 2002. He
was reappointed for a further three-year term by the Assembly on April 28, 2005.
This term expires on May 13, 2008.
The Commissioner's primary role is to assist Members of the Yukon Legislative Assembly and
Cabinet Ministers to understand their obligations under the conflict of interest
legislation, to assist them in identifying areas of possible conflict, and to provide them
with advice on preventing conflicts from occurring. The Conflicts Commissioner also
investigates any complaints made by Members under the legislation.
The Conflict of Interest Commission also has a role with repsect to cabinet and caucus
employees, and Deputy Ministers.
