  • Use our Load Calculator to see how you can live "off the grid" in the Yukon.

The Yukon’s energy grid reaches only part of the territory. People living outside that area must make do without electricity or produce their own. The load calculator is designed to help Yukoners living beyond the grid.

Calculate how much electricity is used on a daily basis and assess the size of battery bank required. If a photovoltaic system is chosen, the load calculator will also help determine the size of system required.

Since appliance use likely differs, depending on the day of the week and the season, the calculation needs to be done twice: once for a typical week in winter and, again, in summer. Depending on your lifestyle, you may just need to average the two results. Any energy efficiency improvements that can be made will result in a reduction in the size of the system required.

  • Borrow one of our Energy Meters to figure out how much energy your appliances really use. We have three meters available to loan from our office at 206A Lowe Street in Whitehorse.

  • Borrow our P-TRAK® Ultrafine Particle Counter (UPC) to help develop air quality solutions for your home or work. The P-TRAK® is only available to people that have completed the one day P-TRAK® course and the supervised practicum.
