Provincial Elections

The governing body of the Province of Prince Edward Island is the Legislative Assembly which is made up of Members of the Legislative Assembly - or MLAs - each one representing an electoral district.

Members of the Legislative Assembly are elected by, and therefore responsible to, the people in their respective electoral districts.

A provincial Legislature may last up to five years but elections can happen outside this five-year time frame. For example, the Premier may dissolve the Legislature for a general election or by-elections may be required and called between general elections to replace members who have died or resigned.

The next provincial election on Prince Edward Island is subject to the dissolution of the Legislative Assembly. According to the Legislative Assembly Act the Legislative Assembly shall continue for five years from the day of the return of writs for a general election, and no longer.

Elections Prince Edward Island is an independent, non-partisan office of the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly.

Elections P.E.I.'s mandate is to manage and oversee all aspects of the electoral process in Prince Edward Island with fairness and impartiality. Conduct provincial elections, by-elections, municipal and school trustee elections and plebiscites, promote public awareness of the electoral process, ensure eligible electors have the opportunity to exercise their right to vote, enforce compliance with provincial acts pertaining to elections, publish reports and recommend amendments to existing legislation.

Electoral Districts

Results
