JIBC Website Privacy Statement

The Justice Institute of BC (JIBC) complies with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (the “Act”). The Act governs the collection, use and disclosure of information by the JIBC. It promotes accountability by providing the public with a right of access to records, subject to limited exceptions and protects the privacy rights of individuals in respect of their personal information.

The Act applies to all records in the custody of the JIBC, with some limited exceptions. Requests may be made for access to records containing an individual's own personal information or to records containing general information or to records containing general information.

The Act does not apply to:

  • A record containing information about a question that is to be used on an examination or test; or
  • A record containing teaching materials or research information of the Institute or employees at a post-secondary education body.

The JIBC collects personal information for purposes associated with its operating programs and activities, and otherwise in accordance with the Act.

With respect to this website, the JIBC does not collect personal information from users without consent, but may do so through an online form or when a user sends us an e-mail. Our server automatically collects a limited amount of technical information essential for the operation and security of our website, including the user's IP address, the name of the internet service provider (“ISP”) and information concerning the user's browser and operating system. This information is used by the JIBC for statistical analysis of user trends and interests, to assist us in making the site more useful to visitors.

On some portions of this site, we may distribute small pieces of information (“cookies”) to the user's web browser to assist the user when returning to a specific page or area on the site.
