Tree Identification Guide Now Online

Landowners, teachers and students have a new, interactive way of learning about Nova Scotia's native trees. The Department of Natural Resources has added a presentation on tree identification to its library of educational resources.

"Tools such as the tree identification presentation are important to encourage a better appreciation of the province's natural resources," said Natural Resources Minister David Morse. "Learning about our native trees helps us understand and get involved with Nova Scotia's forests."

The presentation includes most of Nova Scotia's tree species. Vivid images and descriptive explanations make it easy to confirm the identity of trees found on a nature walk or in a woodlot. Knowing about tree species helps woodlot owners make good management decisions and students understand nature.

Some of the department's other educational opportunities include 14 home study modules on woodland management topics, hunter education information and the kids in the forest program.

The presentation can be found on the department website at www.gov.ns.ca/natr/forestry/TreeID and is available on CD from the Natural Resources Education Centre by calling 902-384-3420.
