The Honeycrisp became an instant hit in the fickle North American fresh-fruit marketMom always knew that apples were good for you. New research and development is showing us how and why

It was called Minnesota 1711 when it was first grown from a graft at the University of Minnesota three decades ago. When released to the commercial marketplace in 1991, the apple was given the more commercial name Honeycrisp. Prized for its combination of tartness, firmness, and brilliant red skin, the Honeycrisp became an instant hit in the fickle North American fresh-fruit market. Farmers around the world—in China, France, Chile, New Zealand, and Washington state—wasted no time planting Honeycrisp cultivars en masse.

Opportunities Nova Scotia Targets Former Nova Scotians in Ontario

The first leg of the Opportunities Nova Scotia national tour took 12 Nova Scotia employers to downtown Toronto and Mississauga on November 5 and 6. More than 600 job seekers attended the two events – many were Nova Scotians looking to come home, and a large portion of the job seekers were newcomers to Canada who were thinking of moving to the province. Nova Scotians attending the events were thrilled to hear about job opportunities, and they shared their stories and reasons for moving back. There was a man whose girlfriend is already working in Halifax and he wants to get there as soon as possible. There was a couple who wanted to move back to Nova Scotia so their kids can live near their grandparents…they were sick of saying goodbye all the time.
