Happy New Year!

Stacey Jones-Oxner

Happy New Year everyone.  It has been a busy year here in Nova Scotia.  Nova Scotians have been in the spotlight this past year in a big way!  Take for instance, Sidney Crosby or Ellen Page.  There have been many other success stories out of Nova Scotia in 2007.  You just have to check out our Charter Member page for evidence.  You'll find feature stories about the many companies, associations and learning institutions that are really making an impact in Nova Scotia and around the world.

One of our newest members, Icon Communications in Cape Breton, is a great example.  This marketing and communications company is working with Johnson and Johnson Medical Products in Toronto.  This is a Fortune 500 company.  This company has hundreds of agencies to choose from, but they chose a Nova Scotia company.  A Cape Breton company.  President of ICON communications and research, Terry Smith, says companies appreciate the spirit of co-operation the people of Nova Scotia possess and the Nova Scotian approach to a business relationship.

More success stories can be found in new ads Nova Scotia Come to life has created.  These ads will air during CTV/ASN's New Year's Eve broadcast.  You can also view them on this website.  Success is all around us in Nova Scotia.  Yes, we have our issues, but sometimes I think we can dwell on the negative a little too much.  We need to celebrate our successes more, be proud of our province and speak positively about the many attributes that Nova Scotia has to offer.  The more we speak positively about Nova Scotia, the more others will want to be a part of this special place.  Immigrants, workers, investment, business will be drawn to us, increasing economic growth.  It certainly isn't the answer to everything, but it is a good start.  So I challenge you to make a New Year's resolution that involves focusing on the good things surrounding us, perhaps that positive energy will have a major impact!
