Licence Details

Dairy production and processing in Alberta requires licensing and inspection. Every dairy producer and dairy processor in Alberta must hold the appropriate licence under the Dairy Industry Act or the Marketing of Agricultural Products Act.

Inspectors from Alberta Agriculture and Food inspect dairy farms and dairy processing operations including buildings, land, milk transport vehicles, milk transport vehicle depots and laboratories for testing dairy products, to ensure that they meet the requirements of the Dairy Industry Act and the regulations. Alberta Milk issues the licences for dairy farms and dairy plants.

For more information, see the Dairy Industry Act and its regulations. For applications for producer licences and processor licences, go to the Alberta Milk website. For information on licencing requirements for food processors, see Business Basics for Alberta Food Processors: Food Processing Regulations.
