Licence Details

The Alberta Farm Implement Act and Regulation is administered by the Farm Implement Act Administration of the Farmers' Advocate Office of Alberta. Under this Act, anyone carrying on a business as a farm implement dealer must hold a dealer's licence. These licences are issued annually and dealers must pay a licence fee to the Alberta Minister of Finance and an annual levy to the Farm Implement Compensation Fund. License fees are set at $50.00 by the Farm Implement Act Regulation. The levy is set annually by the Farm Implement Board. The levy for 2008 is $300 if received by January 31, 2008. After January 31, 2008 the levy is $500. The Farm Implement Board determines the levy based on the number of claims paid out of the compensation fund during the previous year.

Farmers may verify if a company is licensed to carry on a business as a farm implement dealer by contacting the Farmers' Advocate Office.

Dealing with licensed dealers provides farmers with financial and legal security when purchasing equipment.
