  A person must obtain a licence under the Alberta Sugar Beet Production and Marketing Regulation to operate as sugar beet producer.

A producer must apply to the Alberta Sugar Beet Growers Board for a registration number to be eligible to be allotted sugar beet quota. A producer licence is issued by the Board when the producer is allotted quota.
