Welcome!

Many sectors, including Nova Scotia's provincial public service, are at risk of experiencing leadership and workforce gaps in the next decade.

So, what can be done?

GoverNEXT is giving young public servants a chance to be part of the solution, to ensure the Nova Scotia public service remains strong and vibrant in the years ahead.

GoverNEXT is a community of public servants who, together, are contributing to the renewal of the provincial public service by promoting a workplace that is diverse, rewarding, and collaborative.

What does GoverNEXT do?

Under the guidance of a Deputy Minister champion and a steering committee, GoverNEXT creates avenues for professional development and networking for its 300-plus members.

This includes career planning, mentorship, leadership, and networking with today's senior leaders.

GoverNEXT also keeps apprized of and comments on the provincial government's HR policies, programs, and efforts to attract and retain employees.

How was GoverNEXT created?

GoverNEXT was founded by a small group of young public servants in early 2005. They saw a need for a provincial government young public servant network, similar to the Youth Connect model at the federal level.

In Spring 2005, with Deputy level support, the group invited representatives from most provincial government departments to create a steering committee. All public servants are now welcome to register as a member-at-large.
