Two Road-Paving Tenders Called

Two paving tenders announced by the province today, Feb. 6, will provide 11 kilometres of smoother and stronger roads for Nova Scotians this year.

The Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal called for tenders to repave the following sections:

-- Hwy. 103 in Shelburne Co. from the Clyde River Bridge, east for 5.6 kilometres to the intersection of Clinton Road

-- Route 336 in Colchester Co. from the intersection of Southside Road, south for 5.4 kilometres to the Colchester/Halifax co. line.

Both projects are scheduled to be completed this summer.

"The government is aggressively working to restore Nova Scotia's roads to top shape," said Murray Scott, Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal. "During the past two years we have paved 1,100 kilometres of roads all around the province."

These projects are part of government's commitment to better roads and infrastructure as outlined in the speech from the throne.

The highways division of the Department of Transportation and Infrastructure Renewal manages more than 23,000 kilometres of roads in Nova Scotia. It maintains 4,100 bridges and operates seven provincial ferries. Staff provide services from district offices in Bridgewater, Bedford, Truro and Sydney.
