Todd Hardy - Leader to the Third Party

Todd Hardy was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election of September 30, 1996. He was again elected in the general election of November 4, 2002 and re-elected in the general election of October 10, 2006.

Mr. Hardy won the New Democratic Party leadership on September 20, 2002.  In addition to being party leader, he is caucus critic for the Executive Council Office, the Department of Energy, Mines and Resources, the Department of Finance, the Public Service Commission, the Women's Directorate, the Yukon Development Corporation and the Yukon Energy Corporation.  He will share critic responsibilities for the Department of Environment and the Department of Health and Social Services with John Edzerza.  Mr. Hardy will share critic responsibilities for the Department of Economic Development with Steve Cardiff.

A journeyman carpenter by trade, he is a former business agent for Carpenters Union Local 2499 and Plumbers Union Local 310. He has sat as a board member of Yukon College, the Yukon Energy Corporation and Yukon Development Corporation, and served on the Yukon Council on the Economy and the Environment. In addition to being a karate instructor and hockey coach, Mr. Hardy helped found local chapters of both the Council of Canadians and Habitat for Humanity. He is also active with the Yukon Anti-Poverty Coalition.

Mr. Hardy was born on May 17, 1957 in Murraysville, BC and moved to the Yukon while in his teens. He and his wife, former Yukon Member of Parliament Louise Hardy, have four children - Janelle, Tytus, Tess, Lymond - and one grandchild.
