Arthur Mitchell - Leader of the Official Opposition

Arthur Mitchell became Leader of the Yukon Liberal Party in June 2005.  He was elected to the Legislative Assembly in a by-election held November 21, 2005 and re-elected in the general election of October 10, 2006.

In addition to being party leader, Mr. Mitchell is also caucus critic for the Executive Council Office and the Department of Finance.  He shares critic responsibilities for the Department of Health and Social Services with Eric Fairclough.

Prior to entering public life Mitchell owned the Atlin General Store for 26 years and has worked as the Executive Director of the Yukon Chamber of Commerce, as a business consultant, realtor and property developer. He is the former Alternate Chair of the Yukon Workers' Compensation Health & Safety Board and has also served as a board member and Finance Committee member of the Yukon Arts Centre Board. Mr. Mitchell served for several years at the City of Whitehorse's Parks and Recreation Committee, including a year as chair.

Mr. Mitchell has volunteered for the last seven years for the Food for Learning Breakfast Program and is a former member of the Elijah Smith Elementary School Council.

Mitchell lives in the Copperbelt riding with his wife Nancy. They have two adult children, Rachel and Josh.
