Appalachian Corridor launches its enhancement project for the largest private conservation area in Quebec
With financial support from the Fondation Hydro-Québec pour l’environnement, Appalachian Corridor (ACA) is launching a major enhancement project involving 4,874.25 ha (12,044.53 acres) of protected land in the Sutton Mountains. This large forest, which spans the municipalities of Sutton, Potton and West Bolton, will be known as the Green Mountains Nature Reserve, the largest private conservation area in Quebec.

2006 Results: Hydro-Québec garners net income of $3,741 billion and pays $2,342 billion in dividends to the Québec government
Hydro-Québec’s net income rose $1,489 million to reach $3,741 million. This increase stems mainly from gains on the disposal of foreign holdings, totalling $917 million – including $813 million on the sale of Transelec, in Chile – and the recognition of a one-time $234-million foreign exchange gain on loans and swaps denominated in U.S. dollars.

Hydro-Québec Distribution limits its rate adjustment application to 2.8% for 2007
Hydro-Québec Distribution today filed its 2007–2008 rate application with the Régie de l'énergie. In its application, it proposes an average 2.8% rate adjustment, effective April 1, 2007. The exceptionally mild winter of 2006, combined with lower-than-anticipated growth in electricity consumption and higher-than-expected energy savings, prompted Hydro-Québec Distribution to make a downward revision in its projected sales for 2006–2007. Consequently, the division is able to achieve a $182-million savings in terms of supply for 2006 alone.

Hydro-Québec, through its wholly owned subsidiary Hydro-Québec International Inc., is announcing that, after an international bidding process, it has reached an agreement to sell its 92% stake in Transelec Chile S.A. for C$1.7 billion to a consortium led by Canadian investment firm Brookfield and made up of various Canadian institutional investors. Hydro-Québec Records Income From Continuing Operations of $1,098 Million in the First Quarter of 2006
Income from continuing operations totaled $1,098 million, or $59 million more than in the first quarter of 2005, primarily because of a reduction in financial expenses. Income from discontinued operations was $31 million and is mainly attributable to the $29-million gain on the sale of the company’s interest in an underwater link, the Cross Sound Cable in the United States. Thus, net income totals $1,129 million, for a year-over-year increase of $75 million.
