New Brochure To Help Gardeners Learn About Invasive Species

WHITEHORSE - Environment Yukon has collaborated with the City of Whitehorse and various northern plant experts to produce a new brochure to help Yukon gardeners and hobbyists learn more about invasive plant species and how they can help control them.

The brochure was coordinated by Environment Yukon botanist Bruce Bennett while he was with Nature Serve Yukon.

Others who reviewed and assisted included:

  • Toos Omtzigt - Environmental Coordinator for Highways and Public Works;
  • Kirstie Simpson - Sustainable Resource Management Coordinator for Oil, Gas and Mineral Resources Division, Department of Energy Mines and Resources;
  • Matt Ball - Agricultural Research Technician for Agriculture Branch, EMR;
  • Rosamund Pojar-  Invasive Plant Council of BC;
  • Michele Herbert -  the Alaska Committee for Noxious and Invasive Plant Management, University of Alaska;
  • Matt Carlson and Irina Lapina - the Alaskan Natural Heritage Program;
  • Lloyd Freese - Parks Canada Senior Warden for Kluane National Park and Preserve; and
  • Lori Schroeder - Plant Watch Coordinator for Yukon.

The brochure is being distributed to garden shops, Environment Yukon offices, Whitehorse City Hall, the Sport Yukon Building, the Municipal Services Building, the Yukon Agriculture Branch office in the Elijah Smith Building, and the Inquiry Desk of the Yukon Government Administration Building on Second Avenue in Whitehorse.
