RCMP Funding Will Improve Community Presence

WHITEHORSE - Justice Minister Marian C. Horne announced that the Yukon government will be committing $388,000 to the RCMP for staffing in the communities.
The money will help fund the hiring of two additional relief constables.

After an annual assessment of the RCMP's staffing needs in Yukon communities, a decision was made to strengthen the relief policing efforts at the two-person detachments in Beaver Creek and Faro.

The officers will work in Yukon's rural communities when a staff shortage occurs or as required. Two operational clerks will also be hired to fill-in for absent operations staff.

"This funding will give the RCMP more presence in the communities. The addition of two operational clerks will allow RCMP officers to spend more time interacting with people in the community," Horne said. "It is part of our commitment to creating safer Yukon communities."

This initiative will enhance the RCMP's ability to respond to calls in a timely manner and help make the Yukon a safer place to live.
