Government Invests $52,484 for Community Youth Projects

WHITEHORSE – Youth throughout Yukon will benefit from the $52,484 in 14 projects being supported by the Youth Investment Fund. Grants to the organizations were announced today by Acting Premier Elaine Taylor.

The projects cover a wide variety of youth activities throughout the territory, including leadership training, after-school activities, physical activities and school presentations.

The successful projects were announced today by the ministers of the fund's sponsoring departments: Education Minister Patrick Rouble; Health and Social Services Minister Brad Cathers; Justice Minister Marian Horne, Community Services Minister Glenn Hart, and Minister responsible for the Women's Directorate and Acting Minister responsible for the Youth Directorate Taylor.

The Youth Investment Fund supports community-driven initiatives aimed at addressing the needs of Yukon youth. Many of the projects are designed to help youth susceptible to "at risk" behaviors or those who are considered to be "at risk".
Since the fund's inception in 1995, 420 projects have been funded. The next deadline for applications is April 1, 2008.
