Alberta Superintendent of Pensions

Welcome to the website of the Office of the Alberta Superintendent of Pensions.  The Superintendent’s office primarily governs pension plans that are established and maintained by private sector employers (or groups of employers or unions).  This site is intended to provide information for pension plan administrators, members, and service providers.  Additionally, this site contains information that will assist financial institutions and clients who offer locked-in products.

EPPA Update 07-03 - 50% Unlocking Cheat Sheet and Accessing Pension Funds

EPPA Update 07-03 has been developed in light of a high volume of questions concerning the 50% Unlocking Option. Additionally, Accessing Pension Funds has also been updated to:

  • clarify that if that the balance of a locked-in account is a “small amount” after the removal of 50% of the funds, that account can be completely unlocked, and
  • reflect the 2008 YMPE changes.  (Note: all relevant policy bulletins and other documents / tables which must be altered in light of the upcoming change in the calendar year will be amended by end of the month).
