Fentie Appoints Taylor As Deputy Premier

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is pleased to announce the appointment of Elaine Taylor as Deputy Premier of the Yukon government.

"Ms. Taylor has demonstrated her ability to fulfill the duties of the premier's office in my absence and I have full confidence in her ability to appropriately represent Yukoners at the local as well as the national level, when required," Fentie said.

Taylor will continue with ministerial responsibilities for Tourism and Culture and the Women's Directorate.

"I am honoured to accept this appointment," Taylor said. "I look forward to meeting the requirements of this role and continuing to work with my cabinet colleagues in addressing issues of importance to all Yukoners."

In addition to her ministerial responsibilities, Taylor is currently Chair of the Legislative Overview Committee, the Cabinet Committee on Legislation and the Standing Committee on Appointments to Major Government Boards and Committees.

For the past five years, Ms. Taylor has held a number of portfolios including Justice, Education, Public Service Commission, Tourism and Culture, and the Women's Directorate.

Taylor was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the November 2002 general election as the MLA for Whitehorse West. She was re-elected in the October 2006 general election and has served as a member of cabinet since Oct. 28, 2006.
