Premier Announces Appointment Of Education Deputy Minister

WHITEHORSE - Premier Dennis Fentie is pleased to announce the appointment of Pamela Hine as Deputy Minister for the Yukon Department of Education.

Prior to this appointment, Hine worked for the Government of Nunavut as the Deputy Minister of the departments of Community and Government Services, and Education. She was also president of the Nunavut Housing Corporation.

"Ms. Hine brings over 20 years of progressive experience in both the public and private sectors to her new position with the Government of Yukon," Fentie said. "Her management and administration skills will serve the department well."

Hine has demonstrated an innovative approach to strategic education initiatives and has served as a member of the Council of Ministers of Education Canada (CMEC) to promote the education policy direction of Nunavut and the federal government on aboriginal education initiatives.

Hine's appointment takes effect August 20. Until that time, Education Finance and Administration Director, George Gartner, will be Acting Deputy Minister.
