TSAWWASSEN TREATY SIGNED IN OTTAWA
OTTAWA – A treaty with the Tsawwassen First Nation reached another milestone at a tri-partite signing ceremony at the federal parliament buildings in Ottawa on December 6, 2007. The Chief of the Tsawwassen First Nation Kim Baird, federal Minister of Indian Affairs Chuck Strahl and Minister for Aboriginal Relations and Reconciliation Michael de Jong signed the final agreement; the legislation was then introduced in the House of Commons and given first reading. The Tsawwassen treaty is the first to be ratified under the British Columbia Treaty Commission process and the first urban treaty in British Columbia.

PROVINCE SUPPORTS UNIQUE HAIDA SONG PROJECT
HAIDA GWAII – The Haida Gwaii Singers Society will receive $40,000 from the provincial government for the production and recording of an extensive new collection of traditional songs that celebrate and honour the culture and history of the Haida people, Premier Gordon Campbell announced.
