WHEELCHAIR SPORTS SCORE A $225,000 GRANT FROM PROVINCE
VICTORIA – November 28, 2007 – Claude Richmond, Minister of Employment and Income Assistance presents Kathy Newman, Executive Director, BC Wheelchair Sports Association with the keys to a brand new van, specially modified to transport wheelchair athletes and their equipment to events throughout British Columbia and Western North America. The van was purchased as part of a $225,000 grant the Ministry provided to the BC Wheelchair Sport Association to increase access to sporting opportunities for wheelchair athletes.

PROVINCE INVESTS $200,000 IN DIRECT DEPOSIT INCENTIVE
VICTORIA – The Province is offering an incentive package that consists of a knapsack, warm socks, a toque and a pair of gloves to encourage income assistance clients to sign up for direct deposit, announced Claude Richmond, Minister of Employment and Income Assistance.

PROPOSALS WANTED FOR SPECIALIZED EMPLOYMENT SERVICES
VICTORIA – The Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance has posted a Request for Proposals (RFP) on the BC Bid website for $950,000 in complementary, innovative or supplemental services as part of its $20-million-a-year Employment Program for Persons with Disabilities (EPPD).

$225,000 GRANT BUYS NEW WHEELS FOR DISABLED ATHLETES
VANCOUVER – The B.C. government has provided the BC Wheelchair Sports Association with a one-time grant worth $225,000 to help athletes with a disability participate in sporting activities, announced Claude Richmond, Minister of Employment and Income Assistance.

B.C. WILL EXEMPT FEDERAL REGISTERED DISABILITY PLAN
VICTORIA – The Ministry of Employment and Income Assistance will fully exempt the federal government’s Registered Disability Savings Plan when calculating clients’ eligibility for disability assistance.

NEW PROCESS ENSURES URGENT NEEDS ARE MET IMMEDIATELY
VICTORIA – The Province has implemented the new Immediate Needs process to ensure that urgent needs of all income assistance applicants for food, shelter or medical attention are met when they first contact an Employment and Income Assistance office.
