This security policy governs the URL https://online.worksafebc.com and applies to both personal and business-related information.

Site certificate information

Whenever you submit personal or business-related information through our site, you will be doing so through a secure server.

WorkSafeBC's site will only allow secure browsers into the secured areas of the site. Your browser's "secure mode" is in place at all times when connected to this site. You can confirm that you are in a secure mode when your browser displays a special icon on the lower bar of your browser window. WorkSafeBC's site supports Microsoft Internet ExplorerTM 5.x. This browser will display a picture of a closed lock and the web site address will start with "https" instead of "http".

Every secure page on https://online.worksafebc.com has been secured with a digital certificate issued by VeriSign, Inc., a certification authority. To view this certificate, double click on the image of the closed lock at the bottom bar of your browser window. A small frame displaying site security information will pop up.

User identification where necessary

For services that allow the submission or retrieval of private information, you are required to obtain a User ID and password using a standard security gateway service. This service allows users to create their own User ID, maintain their own personal information, and request access to secured application services. External organizations are given the responsibility and capability to manage their own users' access to our secure services. Initial access is granted quickly once the authentication process is complete.

Protection of information in transit

When you use a secure browser, any information you submit to us through our secured web site is transmitted using Secure Socket Layer (SSL) encryption. You can double click on the closed lock icon to verify that we are using this encryption service. A small frame displaying site security information will pop up providing evidence that we are using SSL and that we support either 40-bit or 128-bit key lengths, depending on the application.

Protection of stored information

We have taken technical and procedural measures consistent with international information security practices to protect your personal and business information from misuse, unauthorized access or disclosure, loss, alteration, or destruction.

These measures include:

  • Utilizing a firewall to protect internal computer systems and your stored personal information (a firewall is a barrier to unauthorized users to prevent access to our systems)
  • Monitoring system and application logs to identify any unusual activity, from authorized and/or unauthorized individuals accessing our systems and/or making changes to stored information
  • Housing internal computer systems in a secure building to provide additional protection against unauthorized access and changes to stored information
  • Having independent third parties conduct security assessments and tests of our Internet gateway and Internet applications to confirm the controls are working as designed and implemented

For site security purposes and to ensure that this service remains available to all users, we employ traffic monitoring software programs to identify unauthorized access.

In the event of authorized law enforcement investigations and pursuant to any required legal process, information from these sources may be used. By accessing this site, you are expressly consenting to these monitoring activities. Unauthorized modification of any information stored on this system may result in criminal prosecution.
