HISTORIC TREATY LEGISLATION INTRODUCED

Premier Campbell discusses the historic and momentous introduction in the legislature of B.C.'s first urban, modern-day treaty, which will benefit the Tsawwassen people, British Columbians and all Canadians. The landmark treaty follows years of exceptional leadership by Chief Kim Baird, and will facilitate self-determination, recognition, hope, inclusion and opportunity for the Tsawwassen people as British Columbians.

BREAKING THE CYCLE OF HOMELESSNESS

Premier Campbell discusses how the Province is working with local governments and non-profits to break the cycle of homelessness. The Province is investing $328 million this year in shelters and affordable housing, and on Oct. 12, the Premier announced a further $41 million that will help shelters remain open 24/7, expand outreach services, provide 750 additional rent-supplement units, and fund pre-development costs to ensure city-owned sites are ready to start construction for new supportive housing within a year.

UPGRADES TO PORT MANN BRIDGE BENEFIT PUBLIC TRANSIT AND THE ENVIRONMENT

The Premier discusses an agreement with TransLink to provide $180 million for a new eight-lane Port Mann Bridge and reinstated transit service. He outlines the benefits to Lower Mainland commuters and residents, including shorter travelling times and a major reduction in greenhouse gases.
