LEGISLATURE RECALLED TO END FOREST STRIKE

VANCOUVER — A special sitting of the legislature will be held on Tues. Dec. 16 to introduce legislation that will end the coastal forest strike, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

$78.7 MILLION OFFERED TO PROTECT, PRESERVE BURNS BOG

VICTORIA — The provincial and federal governments, the Greater Vancouver Regional District, and the Corporation of Delta have submitted an offer of $78.7 million to acquire 5,426 acres within Burns Bog, Premier Gordon Campbell said today.

NEW AGENCY TO PROMOTE B.C. TECH INNOVATION, INVESTMENT

VANCOUVER — The Province will invest more than $8.3 million over three years to aggressively market B.C. as an internationally competitive location for technology investment, research and job creation through Leading Edge British Columbia, a new partnership with the broad technology industry, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.

CHARLOTTETOWN, PEI — Canada's Premiers proudly announced today in Charlottetown the creation of the Council of the Federation. It is a new institution for a new era in collaborative intergovernmental relations. The Council, comprised of the thirteen Premiers, will meet at least twice annually with a first meeting to be held on February 23-24 in British Columbia. Premiers formally ushered in the Council with a signing ceremony.

FUNDING TO HELP VANCOUVER SYMPHONY PREPARE OLYMPIC WORK

VICTORIA — The province is providing $250,000 through its new Olympic Arts Fund for the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra to commission and stage new, uniquely Canadian works in time for the 2010 Cultural Olympiad, Premier Gordon Campbell announced today.
