PREMIER'S STATEMENT ON DEATH OF WILLIAM PROCTER

VICTORIA — Premier Gordon Campbell released the following statement today in acknowledgement of the passing of William Procter, the last surviving veteran of World War I living in B.C., who passed away Wednesday at the age of 106.

SCHOLARSHIP TRIPLES FOR TOP HIGH SCHOOL GRADS

VICTORIA — The Premier's Excellence Awards, given each year to 15 top high school graduates who plan to continue their studies in British Columbia, have been increased from $5,000 to $15,000, encouraging outstanding students to stay in the province, Premier Gordon Campbell said today.

COUNCIL PRESENTS NEW VISION FOR TRANSPORTATION

VICTORIA — The Council of the Federation is calling for a new partnership with Ottawa to ensure that Canada's transportation system is safe, secure and supportive of the global trading network, Premiers Gordon Campbell of British Columbia, John Hamm of Nova Scotia and Joe Handley of the Northwest Territories announced today.

NEW CO-CHAIR & MEMBERS APPOINTED TO TECHNOLOGY COUNCIL

VICTORIA — Technology entrepreneur Greg Peet has been named the new co-chair of the Premier's Technology Council and five new members have been appointed to the council to help advise government on opportunities to continue increasing the competitiveness of B.C.'s technology industries, Premier Gordon Campbell said today.
