Mandate of Hon. Barbara A. Hagerman

IN MY INSTALLATION ADDRESS on July 31, 2006, I told Islanders how honoured and humbled I was to have been chosen to serve as the Vice-Regal representative on Prince Edward Island. I believe this role will provide unique challenges but also a venue for me to promote and encourage those key areas that I wish to focus on during my term as Lieutenant Governor.

It is my hope to provide insight into the role of this office and the function it fulfills in our democratic system of government. I hope to reach out to young people and make them feel welcome at Government House and to take this message to them in their places of learning.

With a background in music, it is my desire to embrace the arts and make Fanningbank a showcase for the tremendous talent of Islanders. In addition, I intend to showcase our multiculturalism and the way in which it enriches our society and provides new insights and traditions. And finally I hope to spend some special time with our seniors. These are the people who have made our province and our country what it is today; I salute them and know I will receive inspiration from their experience and wisdom.
