The images we are providing for use as "wallpaper" are JPEG files which may require
conversion to another file format to work properly with your computer. Check the appropriate
section below for details. Have questions? Advice? Send us feedback!.
Windows 95/98/NT and Windows 3.1
Newer versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer
If you are using recent versions of Netscape or
Microsoft Internet Explorer then the process is
as simple as:
- Click on one of the thumbnail images to display a full-sized picture
- With your mouse pointed at the full-sized picture, click the right mouse button
- Select Set As Wallpaper from the pop-up menu that appears
When you do this, the image will automatically be converted and saved as your Windows
wallpaper and will appear in your Control Panel as Netscape Wallpaper or Internet Wallpaper.
Older versions of Netscape and Internet Explorer
If you are using earlier versions of Netscape or
Microsoft Internet Explorer, then you'll have
to take a somewhat more involved journey:
- Click on one of the thumbnail images to display a full-sized picture
- With your mouse pointed at the full-sized picture, click the right mouse button
- Select Save this Image as... from the pop-up menu that appears
- Save the file in a temporary directory like C:\TEMP
- Using a graphics program like PhotoShop,
Paintshop Pro, or other shareware programs,
convert the JPEG file you saved in the temporary directory to a Windows BMP file
- Save this BMP file in your Windows directory (usually C:\WINDOWS)
- From the Windows Control Panel, select Display and then select the name of the
file you just saved in the Wallpaper list
Macintosh
System 8.0 and later
- In either Netscape or Internet Explorer, click on one of the thumbnail images to display a full-sized picture
- From the browser menu, select File and then Save As..., select a location on your
Macintosh to save the picture (for example, on your Macintosh HD disk, or in a folder thereon)
- Click on the Apple Menu in the upper left hand corner of your desktop, select Control Panel and then
Desktop Pictures
- In the dialog box that pops up, click on the Picture button (as opposed to the Pattern button
- Click on Select Picture and select the picture you saved earlier
- Click Set Desktop
System 7.x and earlier
To use these images as Macintosh Wallpaper requires a third-party product like
After Dark 3.0, Desktop Textures, BeforeDark, Wallpaper, ClickChange, Underware, Screenscapes, or Chameleon.
To save the images to disk in the Macintosh version of Netscape, click and hold
the mouse button on the full-sized image and then select Save this Link as in the
shortcut menu when it pops up. A dialog box will come up with the filename filled in.
Save the file in a temporary directory and then use one of the aforementioned utility
programs to install the image as the desktop wallpaper.
