Yukon Liquor Corporation Encourages Grads To 'Plan Ahead To Stay Safe'

WHITEHORSE – To support alcohol-free and healthy lifestyle graduation activities the Yukon Liquor Corporation has introduced a new theme ‘Plan Ahead to Stay Safe.’

"Graduation is a wonderful milestone to celebrate with friends, family and community," Jim Kenyon, minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation said. "However, underage and unsafe drinking is a concern for Yukoners. We want to help grads commemorate their achievements safely and responsibly."

This year’s campaign is intended to help graduates plan in advance so that they can avoid potentially dangerous situations. The ‘Plan Ahead to Stay Safe’ message has been added to lip balms and CD visor cases which will be made available to students and the graduation committees. Yukon Liquor Corporation has also produced a Party Tips brochure for parents and students, suggesting ways to help grads make safe and healthy choices.

Yukon Liquor Corporation is continuing to support alcohol-free graduation activities by providing funding to all Yukon graduating classes.

"We really appreciate the financial support that the Yukon Liquor Corporation provides," said Lynda Peterson, teacher representative for the Porter Creek Secondary School 2005 graduation committee. "It means that we can plan more fun and healthy alcohol-free graduation activities with the students."

Cheques have been sent to all Yukon graduating classes. Lip balms, CD visor cases and the Party Tips brochure will be distributed through the schools and the graduating committees. The Party Tips brochure is also available on the internet at http://www.ylc.yk.ca/.
