Yukon Liquor Corp. Streamlines The Maximum Occupant Capacity Calculation

WHITEHORSE - To harmonize the Yukon Liquor Regulations with the National Fire Code, the Government of Yukon has changed the occupant capacity calculations for licensed establishments and events.

The amendment provides consistency in the way maximum occupant capacity is determined for events, regardless of whether liquor is served.

"This amendment streamlines how occupant capacity is calculated and makes the system more efficient for licensees and permit holders," said Jim Kenyon, minister responsible for the Yukon Liquor Corporation. "The safe occupant capacity for licensed establishments with dance floors, community halls and arenas will now be able to match the National Fire Code public safety standards."

The occupant capacity calculation established under the Liquor Regulations for licensed establishments and events with liquor service had not been revised since 1977, and did not reflect national standards.
