Glenn Hart was first elected to the Yukon Legislative Assembly in the general election of November 4, 2002 and was sworn into Cabinet on November 30, 2002. He was re-elected in the general election of October 10, 2006 at which time he was re-appointed to Cabinet on October 28, 2006. During his terms in Cabinet, Glenn Hart has served as the Minister responsible for: Highways & Public Works, Community Services, the Public Service Commission, the Directorate of French Language Services, the Yukon Liquor Corporation, the Yukon Housing Corporation and Yukon Lotteries.
Mr. Hart first came to the Yukon in 1979 to manage a financial institution in Elsa. He moved to the territory permanently a few years later. In addition to his private sector background as a financial institution executive he is part owner of the Meadow Lakes golf course in Whitehorse and he has worked in three Yukon Government departments: Economic Development, Renewable Resources, and Energy, Mines and Resources.
Since being elected in 2002 Mr. Hart has been actively developing his french language skills allowing him to address members of the Legislative Assembly and the general public in both official languages. When not working in his office, or attending to constituency concerns, he has served as president of the Yukon Quest, president of the Old Timers' Hockey Association and has coordinated and worked with young goaltender's clinics, supported Whitehorse Minor Hockey, is a member of the Yukon Hockey Officials Association and volunteers with the Copper Belt Railway Society. Both he and members of his family were volunteers with the 2007 Canada Winter Games.
Mr. Hart is married with three children and two grandchildren. He and his family have lived in his riding of Riverdale South for 21 years. When time allows, he enjoys fishing, working at home improvements, attending to his dogs, visiting and playing cards with Yukon seniors, and quiet times to read and relax at the family cabin.
