The Prince Edward Island Museum and Heritage Foundation, founded by the Museums Act of 1983, reconstituted the Heritage Foundation, putting Government representation on the board and expanding the mandate to include museum work in the areas of human and natural history. The museum is actively involved in collecting, preserving, displaying and interpreting the Province's past at various sites throughout the Province. Beaconsfield is the administrative headquarters of the organization.

The Division provides administrative and financial services to branch museums and divisions.
The Provincial Collection is a responsibility of this department which is charged with acquisition, care and research of artifacts. The collections are displayed at branch museums and temporary exhibitions.

WHAT WE DO
The department is involved with exhibitions related to the Provincial Collection and to the mandate of the organization as well as the planning and implementation of public programmes.

Boyde Beck Curator of Exhibitions and Public Programmes
The Curator of History conducts research for various divisions of the organization. The curator is responsible for editing The Island Magazine as well as writing and editing books and exhibition materials. The department operates a publishing program, including The Island Magazine and books relating to Island history, and handles publicity and fundraising for the organization. Books are sold at the gift shop at Beaconsfield, at the branch museums and by mail order world-wide.
