Emergency Air Evacuation Service

Where can I find information about the emergency air evacuation service?

Prince Edward Island is part of an Emergency Air Evacuation Service with the provinces of Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

Emergency air evacuation is used when critical or speciality care is required out-of-province immediately.

The decision to use emergency air transport is made by your physician in consultation with medical control physicians at speciality hospitals in Moncton or Halifax.

The major portion of the cost to use the service is paid by the Department of Health. The patient is required to pay a portion of this cost, a fee of $750. Individuals with private insurance may be eligible to be reimbursed for a portion of this fee, depending on the coverage.
