The Program for the promotion of fashion and industrial design has two components: Fashion Design (component A) and Industrial Design (component B).

Component A seeks to facilitate the creation of group promotional projects for all or part of the Quebec fashion and clothing industry.

Component B is intended make Quebecmanufacturers aware of the importance of using industrial design as a source of added value and as a means of enhancing their competitiveness, and to promote Quebec products developed using the industrial design process.

Eligibility Criteria

The PPMDI is aimed at any private or public agency or developer whose initiatives are consistent with the objectives and priorities of the MDEIE to promote fashion and industrial design.

Eligible Activities

Eligible expenses:

The management fees and all expenses directly related to the project, excepting the expenses incurred before the offer of financial assistance and the expenses for beverage and food incurred during an event.

Summary

The proposed projects under the two components must have a group of at least three Quebeccompanies as participants or have potential spin-offs for such a group. All projects aimed at consumers and that have little in the way of potential spin-offs or projects that are primarily educational or historical in nature and that do not focus primarily on industrial development are not eligible.

Component A: Fashion Promotion

Eligible projects must promote a promising segment of the clothing industry or the industry as a whole. They may take the form of a large-scale project using a mass medium to reach a large audience of potential consumers or a project whose objective is to connect distribution channels and industry manufacturers to further the distribution of Quebec products or an extensive project to position Montreal as a major fashion centre in North America.

Examples of projects:

  • Television broadcasts or programs;
  • Infomercials;
  • Brochures;
  • Fashion shows with strong media potential;
  • Ad hoc events such as organizing trade shows.

Component B: Industrial Design Promotion

Eligible projects may seek to showcase to manufacturers the innovative aspect and potential spin-offs of integrating design into the product development process, to encourage Quebec manufacturers to use or hire designers, to promote Quebec products created using industrial design techniques, and to encourage the integration of industrial design into the Quebec manufacturing industry.

Examples of projects:

  • Infomercials;
  • Seminars;
  • Trade shows or activities specific to design;
  • Exhibitions of products created using the design process;
  • Contests; and
  • Any other industrial design integration or promotion project.

Available assistance

The government’s contribution, in the form of non-reimbursable assistance, covers up to 40% of eligible expenses incurred and directly related to the developer’s project. For recurring projects, after the second one, the developer must prove the project cannot be self-financing or that it has been sufficiently improved, as well as demonstrate the potential spin-offs in order to obtain another grant.

The assistance cannot exceed 50,000 per project, and the total government contribution (federal, Quebec and municipal) shall not under any circumstance exceed 50% of eligible expenses.
