The Canadian Industrial Designs Database lets you access industrial designs bibliographic, data, descriptions and drawing images as well as classifications.
In the initial phase, you can search, retrieve and study approximately 10 000 designs registered as of June 15, 2002. The pages may be viewed on-line or downloaded in PDF*.
New registrations will be added on a weekly basis. The Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) is currently in the process of completing the electronic back capture of the designs registered prior to this date and they will be added when available.
This online database provides access to industrial designs which help the users to make sound business decisions by preventing accidental infringement, studying trends in their sectors and gathering intelligence about competitors. Once this free online database has full data, it will contain the most up to date information in every field of industrial designs.
Search the database to see if your design already exists before you file an application, before you invest in new research and development.
If you are interested in purchasing any of the data, please contact CIPO's Client Service Centre.
We recommend you consult the Stand out from your competitors publication as well as it is a fine introduction to IP concepts and strategies.
*To download publications in PDF format, Adobe Reader is required (available free of charge).
