To Whom Does This Apply?

This Act and its regulations is applicable to manufacturers, importers, distributors, retailers and consumers.

Eligible Area

All Canadian provinces and territories.

The advertising, sale and importation of hazardous products.

Summary

The purpose of the Hazardous Products Act (HPA) is to protect the health and safety of consumers by prohibiting or regulating the sale, advertising or import of hazardous or potentially hazardous consumer products, and to ensure the protection of Canadian workers from the adverse effects of hazardous materials through the provision of precautionary labelling and material safety data sheets.

Four categories of items are regulated under the HPA.

• Products banned (see Table 1);
• Regulated products (see Table 2);
• Voluntary standards (see Table 3); and
• Non regulated items of concerns (see Table 4).
