Last Verified: 2007-02-02

The Border Information Service (BIS) is a computerized, 24-hour telephone service that automatically answers all incoming calls and provides general border services information.

With the help of a touch-tone telephone, clients can hear recorded information. If you are calling during office hours and need additional information on a particular topic, you can press "0" to speak to an agent.

Summary

BIS provides information on Canada Border Services Agency programs, services and initiatives divided into the following categories:

  • Personal traveller;
  • Business importation/exportation;
  • Currency Exchange rates;
  • Coming to Canada.

Clients who call from a rotary-dial telephone will not be able to hear the BIS recorded information. However, if the call is placed during office hours, it will be transferred directly to an agent.
