Eligibility Criteria

Businesses that import or want to import goods into Canada.

Summary

The Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) created a step-by-step guide to help small and medium enterprises that import goods occasionally or are importing for the first time. This tool demystifies the process of importing commercial goods into Canada.

The guide examines the following topics:

  • Before importing
  • Tariff classification, rate of duties and taxes, and value for duties
  • Importing process
  • Adjustments and records
  • Trade incentives
  • Other information and services

The guide provides an overview of the commercial importing process, but it is NOT intended to replace existing regulations, acts, or references. All regulations, programs, and references mentioned in this guide are explained in detail in Customs Memoranda D1 to D22.

The Step-by-Step Guide to Importing is available on the CBSA SME Information Centre Web page.
