Municipal Act - Public Consultation
The public is invited to provide feedback on proposed amendments to the Yukon Municipal Act ( 1MB). Online consultation is open from February 4 until March 28, 2008. Community meetings will occur from mid-February until mid-March, 2008. Click here for the meeting schedule. The consultation document is available online, from your local municipality, and from the front desk at the main Yukon government building in Whitehorse.

Animal Protection Act Review
Yukon government pledged to review the Animal Protection Act as part of its mission to improve animal protection in the territory.  Please click here for the assessment report on the current legislation and procedures. Operational changes to improve how the act is enforced are underway, and plans are to proceed with legislative amendments.

Compassionate Care
In January 2004 the Canadian government amended the Employment Insurance Act to include Compassionate Care Leave. This is leave without pay for up to an eight week period for employees caring for a relative with a serious medical condition and significant risk of death within a 26 week period, under the Employment Insurance program.

The Canadian Government further amended the Employment Insurance Regulations in June 2006 to expand the definition of ‘family’ to include ‘additional family members’.
