Yukon Housing Corporation Board To Examine Seniors Housing Options In Haines Junction

WHITEHORSE - The Yukon Housing Corporation Board will initiate consultations in Haines Junction focused on the emerging housing needs of local seniors.

Yukon Housing Corporation will examine the options for a seniors facility in Haines Junction, which could include independent living suites, common areas as well as sufficient space for other government programs and services of interest to seniors.

"The board wants to consider the housing options that are best suited for seniors in Haines Junction," Rudy Couture, chair of the Yukon Housing Corporation Board said. "Community input is very important for a project such as this, so that we can provide the best housing solution."

Consultations with community representatives will begin in the near future to capture community perspectives on residence requirements, potential locations, barrier-free design and community partnering.

"Seniors' housing needs in Haines Junction are being evaluated and will include the active participation of local residents," minister responsible for the Yukon Housing Corporation Jim Kenyon said. "I expect the consultations to move quickly so that our staff should be able to submit housing options for the Board to consider early in the New Year."
