Tagish Welcomes New Fire Hall Addition And Tanker

WHITEHORSE - Community Services Minister Glenn Hart personally delivered a new $152,000 fire tanker truck last Saturday to the Tagish Volunteer Fire Department on behalf of the Yukon Government.  The delivery coincided with the celebration of the official opening of the newly completed addition to the fire hall.

The fire hall has space for the fire department’s modern pumper truck, the new fire tanker and the ambulance which complements the Tagish Emergency Service. The fire hall addition and the tanker truck are both part of Yukon Government's on-going commitment to public safety and fire protection.

The new 300 horsepower tanker truck was built by Commercial Body Builders of Delta, B.C. and is designed for year-round operation in this northern environment. The tanker has been manufactured with an enlarged fire hose bed and an oversized 1200 gallon capacity to enhance fire ground performance.  The tanker is designed to shuttle water to the fire when piped water and fire hydrants are not available.

The new tanker will allow Tagish Volunteer Fire Department Chief Dennis Bouchard and his crew to re-supply water more quickly and efficiently. The truck can store all the equipment needed for rural water supply, as well as extra equipment, with many special features such as a roll-out equipment tray designed for on-board storage and operation of a generator or water pump.

"Our Yukon volunteer fire departments are providing an invaluable service to their communities and the territory. By supporting them with training, resources and equipment the Yukon government is investing in the safety and well-being of our firefighters, as well as our rural citizens and their communities," Hart said. "This new equipment will ensure our firefighters have the right tools to do their jobs safely and efficiently for the benefit of all."

This was the second new tanker truck delivered this year; the first went to the Ibex Valley Volunteer Fire Department in January.
