Information
for Service Providers
Effective June
30, 2002 the Crime
Victim Assistance Act and Regulations came into force and the
Crime Victim Assistance Program became operational. This program
is administered by Victim Services and Community Programs Division, Ministry of Public
Safety and Solicitor General and replaces the Criminal Injury Compensation
Program administered by the Worker's Compensation Board.
The Crime Victim
Assistance Program provides assistance to victims of violent
crime to aid in their recovery and ongoing security, so that they
may participate fully and safely in their communities.
Under the Crime
Victim Assistance Act, victims injured as a result of certain crimes,
immediate family members of an injured or deceased victim and some
witnesses may be eligible for financial assistance or benefits.
