Lang Attending National Energy & Mines Ministers' Conference
WHITEHORSE - Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang is attending the Energy and Mines Ministers' Conference in New Brunswick, September 19-20.
This annual conference, the oldest of its kind dating back to the 1940s, provides a forum for the mining and energy industries and associations to share information and expertise with provincial, territorial and federal ministers.
"The theme for the mines meeting is the viability of mining communities," Lang said. "At the energy meeting, we are discussing awareness and efficiency. I am also inviting an estimated 200 delegates and their families to the territory next year, where we will be hosting the conference in Whitehorse, Aug. 27-30, 2006."
Representatives of the mining industry will present information on a variety of topics including solutions for maintaining the viability of mining communities, funding for the geological mapping strategy, taxation improvements and projected labour shortfalls.
Energy sector associations will brief ministers on energy supply issues, energy efficiency and awareness, technology developments, and electricity and natural gas transmission infrastructure.
This year's conference is co-chaired by the Honourable John Efford, Minister of Natural Resources Canada (NRCan) and New Brunswick ministers Keith Ashfield, Minister of Natural Resources and R. Bruce Fitch, Minister of Energy.
