Major Mine Licencing Website Launched

WHITEHORSE - Energy, Mines and Resources Minister Archie Lang is pleased to announce that the Government of Yukon has launched a 'major mine licencing' website, a web-based gateway to key Yukon government licences and authorizations granted for major mine developments as well as important background reports.

"The Yukon's mining industry is growing in leaps and bounds" Lang said. "With mining exploration and development investments expected to reach $170 million this year alone, there is little doubt that we will experience an increase in mining projects and their subsequent approvals.

"The citizens of the Yukon deserve transparency and easy access to those approvals so they can see how these major mining projects are licensed and regulated," Lang added.

The website will provide public access to mine location maps, project descriptions, licenses, authorizations and approvals such as quartz mining licenses, water licenses, tailings management plans, remediation and closure plans, and security.

"Yukoners will soon celebrate the production of copper-gold concentrate from the Minto mine," Lang added. "This website will enable people to view important documents such as the quartz mining license for the Minto mine."

The new website can be easily accessed by visiting www.yukonmining.com.
